Part A: Reflection. In this unit I learned that that media has a huge imact on globalization and universalization. There are three types of identity that we discussed this past unit including collective identity, individual identity and linguistic identity. I found it really interesting that our world is so americanized.I can connect what have learned in class to english class because we do a lot of writing. What surprised me this unit was how some citizens of other countries are margenalized. One concept that I am still having difficulty with is nothing. One question I still have is if cultures are worried about losing they're identity than why do they continue to do things that diminish it. One skill or learning strategy I found helpful was the word wheel. If I was to teach someone how to use this I would tell them to first choose your nine words. Then write them in the middle. Next find ways to connect the words. Finally share with a classmate. This will help them learn/and remember words and how they are connected.
Part B: Economic Globalization.
Outsourcing is when a company moves to another countries to save money on labour and production. Transnational corperations do this.Somepositive aspects of doing this are cheaper labour which increases profet adn creates jobs for that country. However negative effects are that the companies origional branch closes down leaving almost all employees jobless.
Part C: Globalization and Identity.
The source says that Bill 101 is not nessasary beacause people have always spoke french and always will. Bill 101 is a law that is in place to help preserve the Francophone Identity and keep the language alive. Some of the thing that this bill put in to place were that roadsigns must be in french and anyone without previous Anglophones reletives living in Quebec must attend french schools.
The Francophone language is Canadas Minority and is slowly being overpopulated by english speaking Canadians. Many people believe that this is a good thing and that it is helping to preserve the language. Others think that it is pointless and is no help at all and the language is lost.
I think that Bill 101 isn't doing any good. All it is doing is postponing what is eventually to come. I agree with the source in the aspect of the government not needing to become involed but not with the confidence that the Francophone language will survive. Globalization is affecting this because english in Canada is taking over french and lowering its numbers.
