Historical Globalization

Reflection - In this past unit, Historical Globalization, I learned that mercantilism was what led to imperialism, the taking over and ruling of other counties and then to industrialization. I found it interesting that Aboriginals were not allowed to speak they're native tongue and were punished if they did after being sent to residential schools to assimilate. Aboriginals were punished for everything they did that was 'non European'.High lighting was a learning strategy that i found very helpful for remembering things. So far this classes concepts are easy to grasp. I connect this with English class because First Nations went to school to learn English.

Early Economic Globalization - Mercantilism led to more and more trading and the need for luxury goods. Industries were created for mass production of desired goods which meant the need for more raw materials.Once the need for theses materials grew even more countries turned to colonization and taking over of other weaker countries.

Impacts of Imperialism - There were many motivations for imperialism. For example the need for raw materials led to colonies and in time The Scramble for Africa where European countries divided Africa in sections and controlled them as colonies. Also in North America where Europeans forced First Nations into residential schools to 'civilize' them. 

Legacies of Imperialism - The legacy of imperialism in Canada left Aboriginal culture ruined. Residential schools turned First Nations into 'civilized people'. This practically made them European. The schools virtually extinguished native culture which left them without they're own beliefs. Canadian imperialism left Aboriginal culture broken and torn.

Connection to Globalization -
               Globalization - to extend to other or all parts of the globe; make worldwide. Imperialism had a big part to play in globalization because countries invaded other countries leaving impressions of tradition of the're own culture. This made cultures similar over time.

Reflection

Until this point we have completed two worksheets; the Comparison Chart between the Beothuk, the Hunters of the Plains and the six nation confederacy showing the ups and downs of the arrival of the Europeans and Drawings of the New World. This course is really easy to follow but there are still some goals that I would like to work on. First thing is my level of effort and second is showing up to class on time more.

So Far

This past week our class has studied and learned about globalization. Globalization has eight subcategories:
         -Economic Globalization is the process of expanding world trading networks.
         -Cultural Globalization is the act of adopting another cultures customs.
         -Geographic Globalization is the literal connection between two countries causing influence.
         -Social Gloabalization is the spread of lyfestyle through voice.
         -Technological Globalization is ifluence of lyfestyle through technology.
         -Ecological Globalization is the use of foreign resources.
         -Political Globalization is the coming togather of goverments to discuss a matter.
         -Finantial Globalization is the fluxuation of economies and expences.

Also we have discussed the Europeans and they're voyage into Canada, the encounter with the First nations, and the positive and nagative effects of this encounter.
